Adelaide in Decline?

Posted on: November 14, 2009

Most of the answers to a survey suggested that parking was a city problem, and so it is, but will the Retail Association on Rundle Mall do anything on their own to stop their decline or pass it to Government?. Why should the Government finance any of this? The city is a constant liability. It provides no revenue for the community and is barely a conduit for the wealth of the state that is generated outside of the CBD. Yet, Government and the City Council dither with bits of infrastructure and want to load the square mile by another 500,000 residents in high rise. It is surely very evident the State is too small. Barely 800,000 residents provide the revenue to support the grandiosities of politicians without anyone else joining in the handouts. With current debts around $10 billion, just how can these ideas be paid for? The unhappy Rundle Mall Group might consider a shift to the $52 million that revenue paid for the Clipsal property with Tuscany dogbox boutiques and concrete gardens as an alternative to the Mall.
