Road Deaths – One in Five on Drugs

Posted on: October 2, 2009

Organisers of a new campaign in South Australia against drug driving say one in five drivers killed on South Australian roads test positive to recreational drugs.

The SA judiciary allows this carnage to continue. It makes no sense to spend such large sums of money on slogans and soft deterrents to drug use when all the while the dealer goes free on bail to sweep his supply line clean and to set up another path to big money. The judiciary must know that it is the dealer who is the cause of all the death and personal misery of drug use that leads to such social sabotage. On one hand we send AFP alongside the troops in Afghanistan to gain on the ground knowledge of the heroin trade, the narco economy. At this end the court took 5 years to sentence a drug dealer caught by police in a sting that netted a large amount of cash and a variety of drugs while risking the life of a policewoman in the process. Young women die from overdose at rave parties. A little 9 year old boy dies from neglect of drug addict parents and drivers or anyone else on drugs should be subject to the universally accepted principle of user pays for the consequences. A blind man can see that a warehouse of the stuff has no value if it cannot be sold by the dealers and I for one challenge the judiciary not only to publicly explain why the dealers should not be jailed when arrested and their assets sold off to help pay for rehab of those caught in this web of social destruction.
