Scrap the Parole Board, Part.2

Posted on: July 21, 2009

Each of the Parole Board members cannot be so insensitive to  community expectations of justice for the victims. I have long been an advocate to abolish the Board.and the current exchange between Mrs. Nelson QC, the Attorney General, the Premier and a host of correspondents to media have made it patently clear that victims of rape, attempted murder, child molestation, drug dealers who cause so much death and social sabotage and victims of habitual criminality of one kind or another are ignored.in the total mindset of parole. The recent exchange as to who may have responsibility ignores the victims completely.
Nothing seems to have  changed since an Advertiser editorial, August 30 2007, “Everyone Loses When Justice System Fails”. that might well apply to the Robinson victims and the most prominent victim of all  – his mother. Scrap the Parole Board. Let the Court leave no doubt in its deliberations that the sentence handed down is justified on its merits and then there will be no need for the Parole Board to ever get it so wrong that victims or families of victims and witnesses have to run away and hide because the criminal was free and they were not told and had no impact statement to influence  the application for parole…
