8000 Government Cars

Posted on: July 20, 2009

Parking for politicians in the limited spaces on North terrace is nit picking but the record of abuse of privilege that politicians and the public sector have given themselves is not confined to the abuse of vehicles. However, there are over 8000  Government cars. More than 7000 in the metro area with a record of 7 accidents a day and the damage bill paid by taxpayers, $2.5 million last year. Is it because the risks are so high that no commercial insurer would touch them?. Police, ambulance and emergency services are forgiven but not all that other lot. Mr. Foley’s razor to cut employees quote,”by 1600 over 4 years” to cut costs might well be directed to this issue and sell off all not required for essential services and the bush. Only 1600 over 4 years out of 125,000? It is as fatuous as the $8 billion debt, the current liability to the Public Servise that will be “on track by 2034” , indeed, a rutted muddy one no less.
